Working with Orphans and Widows in Ukraine

This summer, a small part of our church had an opportunity to participate and help in a camp for widows and orphans in Ukraine called, “From Heart to Heart.” On behalf of the whole team I want to thank you for your prayers and financial support in this project! May the Lord bless you!

This camp has been organized from 2015 by the family of Sergei and Oksana Kopchuk from Second Slavic Baptist Church together with the missions organization called Connect International.

The goal of this camp is to spread the gospel and the love of the Father to widows and their kids who’ve lost their husbands and fathers in the war of Russia against Ukraine, as well as to provide for a little vacation. This camp is hosted normally between 2-3 times throughout the summer, depending on the gathered finances.

Every camp, which lasts 7 days, includes about 300 women and kids and about 50 staff. The grief and pain of loss that these women and kids have experienced makes their hearts more open to accepting the gospel. The Holy Spirit, by God’s grace, was especially working in their hearts. This summer, 13 women turned to the Lord along with one young man. Praise the Lord! One sister, who came to the Lord last year, wished to be baptized right then and there at the camp. Pastors Alexander Kalinskiy and Vladimir Omelchuk baptized them at the camp. The Lord’s Supper was also held and this sparked a special interest toward the church, even from local guests. Praise the Lord!

Scripture To Memorize

And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,

 10 so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;

 11 being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy;

12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.

13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,

14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.

16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-all things were created through him and for him.

 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

18 And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.

19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell,

20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

Colossians 1:9-20
