Ministering to the Afghan People in Sacramento
As you may know, our church is involved in ministering to the Afghan people in Sacramento. The following is a list of ways you can participate in this ministry. For more details and information please contact Alex Chernysh via SMS, Telegram, Viber, or WhatsApp. For his contact details please get in touch with the church secretary.
1. Prayer and a team.
One of the most needed elements in working with Muslims is prayer. Specifically that the strongholds of Islam and fear would be broken and that God would open hearts and bring a revival among the peoples of Afghanistan. Another need is for more people to hear the call to work among the Muslim people and other unreached people groups.
Contact Alex if you have a desire to be in constant prayer about this.
2. Participating in a cross-cultural ministry team.
We are in the process right now of building a team, developing a vision and strategy, and figuring out training opportunities.
Let us know if you would like to commit yourself to this ministry or if you would like to find out if it may be your calling.
3. Looking after kids.
Sometimes we gather with Afghan families for fellowship and the reading of the Word, but they have their own approach to raising children that often makes it impossible to focus on the topic at hand.
Let us know if you would ever be able to come (most likely West Sacramento) in order to be with the kids so that they wouldn’t “destroy” the house and the guests would be able to fully be part of the fellowship ?
4. The church has opened a fund for this ministry.
You can donate to this ministry by specifying “Afghan fund” in the memo.
Funds have so far been used to buy printed New Testaments in the languages Dari and Pashto. Sometimes we also purchase groceries like rice, flour, oil, etc. and help in obtaining and delivering furniture and other household items.
So far there is not as much of a need in finances as there is in people.
5. Help in logistics.
Help is sometimes needed in picking up and delivering furniture and other household items. Please reach out if you would be able to help in this. If you have a truck and/or a trailer, please let us know if you’d be able to help with transport or delivery.
6. Help from social workers, World Relief staff, and immigration lawyers.
Pretty much every newly immigrated family needs help with doing paperwork, looking for a place to live, and finding work. This is why we’re looking for people who are familiar with immigration programs, laws, and benefits, especially those that are available to people regardless of their methods of entry into the country.
Let us know if you’d be able to help with finding places to live and if you can employ both qualified and unqualified Afghans.
7. Help in driving lessons and getting a driver’s license.
This is another common need among the immigrants. If you can help in this please let us know. There are Afghans that know English pretty well, and some even know Russian.
8. Help in learning English.
If you can work with a family to get them into ESL classes or to become friends and help in training and practice, let us know.
9. Help in adopting a family.
If you are ready to commit yourself and your time to adopt an Afghan family and develop a relationship and friendship for the testimony of the gospel, we are ready to find such a family (assuming a common language between you). We are also ready to help you start learning the language Dari and other methods for ministering to Muslims. Afghan families that have come to America find themselves in a completely different society and culture and need help in the most basic things, such as which store to go to find necessary items, how to get to social services, help in filing for benefits, practicing English, understanding the culture, laws, medical system, education system, etc.
10. Help in preparing Afghan food.
Hospitality and food play a big role in ministering to Muslims and really any other Eastern nation.
If you have a desire to learn how to prepare Afghan food (Kabuli Pulao – Afghan/Kabul plov, Bolani – Afghan potato flatbread, Mantu – Afghan dumplings, Kabob – Afghan shish kebab, etc.) to sometimes cater such meals for various events, please let us know.

Scripture To Memorize
9 And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,
10 so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
11 being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy;
12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.
13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,
14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
