Shalom, beloved!
The midterm elections were held last week and I want to explain a little our view on the politics in the country where we live. Even though votes are still being counted in a few states, the big picture is already clear. The awaited “Red wave” did not occur. If you are not aware of how the political scene works in the US, then let me quickly explain: there are two main political parties, and in the past they had minor differences in values and views regarding politics and society. Over the past few years, however, they have been moving in completely opposite directions in questions regarding morality. This is especially obvious when it comes to abortion. The Democratic Party heavily promotes their LGBT and abortion agenda, whereas the Republican Party sides closer with the biblical perspective. Specifically this topic has become the central point that played a big role in the recent elections.
Why am I writing about this in the letter? Not all Christians clearly understand the gravity of the situation with abortion. In the US, 1 out of 4 women has had an abortion. On average, 1 million children are murdered in the mother’s womb every year in the US. This is insane!
Scripture tells us that a child in the mother’s womb is the work of God (Ps. 139:13-16) and a child in the womb is called a “baby” (Luke 1:41, 44). This same Greek word brephos is also used in describing Jesus after he was already born (Luke 2:16). Scripture doesn’t distinguish between a child in the womb and one who’s already born! This is a person. This is life. This is God’s gift!
We must not be passive and inactive toward this. “Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter.” (Pr. 24:11). At a minimum, our participation needs to begin with voting for laws that protect the unborn. We are called to pray so that God would work in the hearts of women who are choosing to make this step. We must speak up where we can help prevent a mother from making this decision. For some it can potentially be a more serious step, adopting a child!
Yes, for various reasons, not all families can have their own children. This is a very sensitive topic and we need to pray for these families. Many of these families really want to have their own kids. But we must approach this biblically. This isn’t a dead-end but an opportunity. Perhaps God may be giving you or your friends the opportunity to save a child from death. What can be more valuable and noble? Is this not the expression of the Spirit of adoption (Rom. 8:15)? Of course, this isn’t a rash decision to be made. A couple must pray much and seek conviction from God.
What should you do if you’ve already had an abortion? Perhaps you know someone who has. The only hope and comfort are found in forgiveness! Every believer is forgiven, washed, sanctified, and justified by the name of Jesus Christ! (1 Cor. 6:9-11).

Scripture To Memorize
5 You sweep them away as with a flood; they are like a dream,
like grass that is renewed in the morning:
6 in the morning it flourishes and is renewed;
in the evening it fades and withers.
