Sergey Potapov and his family are missionaries in the town of Toruń, Poland, which has a population of about 200,000 people. It is a small but very beautiful and historic city. Its history and architecture are truly rich; however, unfortunately, the same cannot be said about its spiritual life. The population is mostly Catholic, and most people hardly know who evangelical Christians are or what the Gospel is. Poland ranks among the countries with the lowest number of evangelical Christians, on the same level as Saudi Arabia and other predominantly Muslim nations. In Toruń, there is only one Baptist church with about 50 members.
Sergey moved to Toruń in August 2016. Before coming to Poland, he served as a missionary in the Donbas region, but due to the outbreak of war, his family was forced to relocate.
At that time, the church in Toruń was looking for a missionary to serve among Russian speakers. By God’s providence, Sergey became that missionary.
Two years ago, Sergey enrolled in the Warsaw Baptist Seminary to study the Polish language and prepare to minister among the Polish people. Thanks to this, Sergey now helps organize a new church in Bydgoszcz, a city twice the size of Toruń. The church team conducts street evangelism and engages local residents in discussions about the Gospel. Having learned Polish, Sergey is now able to preach in the language as well.
Sergey and his assistant, Evgeniy—who came to faith in Toruń—have a deep desire to plant a Polish church.
The Potapov family lives on donations from the local church. Although these do not cover all their expenses, they are grateful for what they receive. Sergey’s wife works, but her job is low-paying. Sergey also works as a gardener, which requires much time and effort.
Please pray for the Potapov family and their ministry. If the Lord places it on your heart and you have the means, you can also support them financially.
