“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places…” Ephesians 1:3
Viktor and Tatyana Kovba — Missionaries in Torrevieja, Spain (Alicante Province)
The Lord called us to Himself in 1995. In that same year, we were baptized in water and began serving Him on the mission field.
God has blessed us with five children and nine grandchildren.
Ministry in Ukraine
In 2000, I was ordained as a pastor. For 10 years, I served as pastor of a local Baptist church in the village of Hadzynka near Zhytomyr. In addition, I served as a coordinator for planting new churches in the Zhytomyr region.
Education
I studied at the Kyiv Theological Seminary and at the ICP Institute in Minsk.
Current ministry
I serve as pastor of the Light of Life (Luz de Vida) church in Torrevieja (Alicante), Spain.
Our whole family is actively involved in church and missionary work.
The greatest joy of our family is to serve God and people!
Missionary ministry in Spain
About 16 years ago, my wife Tatyana and I, along with our two younger children, moved to the European Union and obtained Polish citizenship.
I served for 5 years on the pastoral council of a Polish church, followed by periods of ministry and work in England and Germany. In England, we attempted to start a Bible study group, but people were overwhelmed with daily concerns. In Germany, I also served on a pastoral council.
Six years ago, due to my wife’s health, God directed us to Spain — to the city of Torrevieja (Alicante province).
Torrevieja is a popular resort on the Costa Blanca.
As of early 2025, about 105,000 people live here, almost half of them foreigners from 122 countries.
The Slavic community is significant: roughly 16,500 people are officially registered, and unofficial estimates reach around 25,000. The Ukrainian community is the largest.
The city is known for its mild climate, salt lakes, and a large population of Ukrainian- and Russian-speaking residents.
Here, with God’s help, we began missionary work among Slavic immigrants — many of whom were seeking sound biblical teaching, which was hard to find in this region.
The first gatherings took place in a rented apartment. From three families, the fellowship slowly grew and continues to grow.
Today, the church is attended by 100–110 people, with 56 official members.
Challenges
We do not hide that ministry and life in Spain come with serious financial difficulties. I often have to leave for temporary work and constantly look for new employment opportunities, which unfortunately interrupts discipleship and ongoing spiritual care for those who desire to grow in faith.
There is now a particularly urgent need for a Bible school, for training and developing new leaders, and for meeting basic family needs — including medical expenses for my wife.
We also plan, with God’s help, to begin Spanish and English ministry tracks. Please pray for these projects!
We believe that with God’s help and the support of brothers and sisters, we will be able to continue laboring for the glory of the Lord and strengthen spiritual ministry in our region.
We greatly need your prayers and support!
It is important for us to develop partnerships so we can together organize youth retreats, children’s and family camps, and more. We believe that through joint ministry, the Lord will touch even more hearts and strengthen families in the faith.
